You forget that they already have 64bit production versions of Win2k3 for Itanium, but that's for servers.

Yeah, there's been a 64-bit Linux for AMD64 for a while, but how many apps and drivers are out there that actually use 64-bits effectively. I'm not just talking about a recompile.

The OS is just the tip of the iceberg when going from one bit size to another. All the drivers and apps that need to be reworked as well, and sometimes that's not simple.

Considering that AMD64 is only a few months old and that there really aren't many comercial grade apps for desktops that even need 64-bits, there just isn't a rush. Microsoft's just taking its time, which is good.

People criticize Microsoft when they think they've rushed a product out the door, and they get criticized for not rushing a product that right now doesn't even fill an exisitng need.

Geeesh!!!
