I don't think you have to do that
The way I read the story, personal whitelist mail isn't all that you see - it's just that those messages are pushed to the front. The rest is still there.

Today, any spam filter is still guessing at what you want to see and what you don't. Excite Mail has for years let you reject mail from any unfamiliar address.

I even like to read some of the spam subject lines, because they're unintentionally funny. "Robert.carnegie, view pictures of other horny singles". How badly that could go wrong.
