MSN Hotmail has had a white list forever.
This article is very deceiving. These 'upgrades' to MSN Hotmail Web are designed to make the new MSN 9 Plus/Premium interface similar to the web interface. They also drastically improve the MSN Today page and offer more advanced e-mail features traditionally seen in an application like Outlook. MSN Hotmail has had a 'white list' or what's known as 'exclusive junk mail filter' to MSN Hotmail customers. This only allows e-mails from the address book and e-mails or domains in a safe or mailing list to get into the Inbox. The MSN Today takes this a step further by pointing out e-mail from people in your address book as the first thing you see. This feature is already somewhat in MSN Hotmail also because users can filter what they see by selecting 'Show me mail from: (Everyone/People I Know/Unknown Senders)'. Also with AOL or Yahoo you have to pay for these 'advanced' filters while MSN Hotmail accounts are free to the public. I actually know a free Yahoo user that would like to have an 'exclusive' filter in her Yahoo mail because she gets a ton of junk mail even though she reports it all and is careful to what she gives her e-mail address out to.
This author needs to do her research before she starts talking about something she obviously has no clue about.
