You're smarter than this No_Ax: You seem like a pretty intelligent guy who's good at holding your own in arguments. So why would you make such a silly mistake as to claim you CAN'T sell GPL software?

The GPL only becomes an issue when software is distributed. You can charge anything you want for it, but you must also provide them with source code if they ask (you can charge a small fee for this).
If somehow your piece of software that uses GPL code leaks onto the Internet, you don't instantly have to provide code. You would either remove the infringing code, or withdraw the software (not a problem if you did not mean to release it).

Also, OpenOffice is NOT GPL- it is LGPL. There is a huge world of difference here.
