I never said they should go away just they came about due to piracy. Yeah sure some one had an idea but that idea would faded away to nothing with out piracy. Piracy if anything has pushed progress forward. Forcing the issue. The piracy also had a benificial impact in terms of CD sales too. Up until the RIAA shot themselves in the foot with the law suits. But then more sales wasn't what they wanted so no big deal.

Now with P2P being a around and maturing it's developed legitimate uses.

Now just think how popular would Napster had been if it only had used for legal file swapping. It would never have made it anywhere. That's the point.

As illegal as copyright infringement I don't think that the causual swapping for no profit is harmful and if anything is benifitial for all content. I know I've bought many CDs after downloading a few songs just to see how the rest of the CD is. I know I've rented, bought and gone to movies that I've downloaded. I've bought software though I haven't actually downloaded any off the net illegally. I have burned a CD of a game from a friend only to go buy it if I liked it.
