Yes, that perception is a fallacy. I offer you the challenge
I've made this challenge to many with the misconception you are suffering from. If you believe there is ANY area of computting that is having "innovation" (not copying) blocked point it out to me, and I'll show you a list of innovations as long as your arm.

The fact is there is NO LACK of innovation in any area of computing. You can't pick up a trade magazine without seeing hindreds of new products, both hardware and software.

Care to take the challenge? No one else has.
