I agree, and I for one am not expecting it. An abusive
monopolist does not change its practices.

However, it is a win for everyone that produces Office formatted
documents in the open standard (and those of us that will have
to support them into the future). At least sometime in the future
we'll be able to read what they produced (if only after the
patents expire;-)).

Of course they could get even more benefits today by moving to
a more progressive platform:-)
