Similar said about office suites
Cost a sum of cash upfront but for those who use it, they make back the money via their business and yet, OSS solutions were developed to directly aim at such products, as either a price bargaining down chip or as a direct revenue stemmer, eg EasyOffice, OpenOffice, 602, etc though the home user product to market against may have been Works, MSOffice was the noted and compared target. Office suites are fast becoming commodity software, and from tv to print ads, some ppl are saying why pay for office suite (Corel, MS, Lotus) again, OpenOffice is free and compatible, ((right Patrick Norton))?

As price point and perceived bloat, as well as upgrade treadmill are a sticking point, OSS solutions will continue to develop to counter, and in a free market, will be developed, ala Gimp and CAD apps, IMO. Adobe is in a very unique and perilous market for software only companies now, where certain consumers can become competitors, even if to bargain down price, policy and programming, even if they don't offend their consumer base.
