I've never had a corrupted <ocument.

You obviously don't use it much, then.

Of course, neither do I. I merely report the experience of technical documentation departments at (very) large electronics companies.

Maybe it has to do with their IT departments being incompetent to set up the software; I can't say. Bottom line is that shared documents routinely get corrupted.

My own suspicion is that MS stuff isn't really oriented towards "collaboration" but rather "publication." Sharepoint, for instance, seems to work tolerably well as a mechanism for someone to put a single-author document where others can get at it, although the administrative overhead is a bit high.
