1st Billy didn't claim anything to do with inventing 64 bit.

2nd MS has supported a 64 bit envionment for a long time (1994) see MIPS NT 3.50 and ALPHA 3.50 this lasted until late NT 4.0 days, not they weren't native but compile for these platforms and supported VLM memory usage. So to say they weren't looking now is un-informed.

3rd. Linux is new period: I played with Linux back in the NT 3.51 days and it was pitiful. Don't claim much there, there is many years of maturing for Linux before it is there.

BTW: go linux
