One thing they did't mention, pirating is rampant in developing countries
So, you really don't have to pay for MS software. Microsoft intentially makes their software easy to pirate so they won't use Linux in developing markets. Piracy is really a big part of Microsoft strategy.

But, that said, there is a certain ammound of shame in these countries, and they would rather be self sufficient and not pirate, thus open source makes sense for them.

Also, the localization, as pointed out, is a big issue. I for the life of me don't see why Microsoft does not open up the translation of MS Office so that anybody can create a translation and use it with any paid version of MS Office.

Microsoft can really not afford to let open source get a foot hold in developing countries.
