Pretty irrelevant
MS's primary markets for its biog sellers, Windows, Office, &
Server products, are business, governemnt and education.

None of those market segments are going to allow the ads and
will continue to pay for the products. The home market is
generally the one that likes to get "free stuff". However,
Windows comes on the computer when they buy it and the
education version of Office (or it's Works suite with full Word) is
cheap enough to outweigh putting up with ads.

Companies kick around ideas all the time. That's how you come
up with good ideas - and bad. This appears to be one of those
"kick around" things.

MS definitely could face problems with Open Office in the future.
If OO continues to improve MS could face a problem similar to
the one that Netscape faced with Explorer - free vs paid yet
doing basically the same thing.
