Reality of the Situation
It's time you all look at the reality of the situation.
1. This is about saving server costs while also increasing customer awareness NOT about the lawsuit.
2. Lindows is a VERY stable OS. It is easier to install and setup than Windows and just as easy to use or even easier in many ways. It is NOT a techie type distro but yet is just as capable as ANY distro. It is very at home in desktop use as well as corporate use. I personally setup commercial networks and have integrated into many existing MS based networks flawlessly.
3. This is just a "LIVE" distrobution which runs from cdrom and does not get installed. It is meant to be used for evaluation purposes.
4. P2P is already used for many legitimate purposes.
5. Lindows is NOT hard to install, just the opposite, I have installed it in 4 minutes on new machines and average time on an older machine is about 10 minutes for a complete install including bundled office suite, browsers, chat apps, html editor, and games.
6. In corporate use I have seen Lindows machines run 6 months or more without reboots.
7. I have NEVER had to remove a virus from a Lindows based machine. (wish I could say the same for MS)
8. The Windows name was in use by MANY companies LONG before MS even began development of Windows. MS was turned down on trademark applications 3 times because "Windows" is a generic term in use by many companies before the trademark was finally issued. (wonder how big the check was accompanying the 4th application.
9. US trademark law states that once a term or name os considered generic NO ammount of investment or advertising can change it to a trademark hence the trademark will almost assuredly be tossed out anyway.
10. I install, network, service and sell BOTH MS and Lindows Products on a daily basis and they BOTH have good points and bad. Unless you have actually thoroughly tested both you do not have the facts necessary to draw an intelligent conclusion or opinion.
Download the LindowsCD and try it before you knock it. You may be surprised and then even consider that it will run about 20 times faster from a hard drive after actually being installed not just tried form cdrom.
