Java is not always free. The sdk's and basic doc's are free but there are many parts of java that brings revenue to Sun. Examples include licensing fees, certification fees from app server developers (like Weblogic and JBoss), Enterprise tools, their own application servers, developer certification fees, training, etc, etc.

Does that help explain why there is no rush for Sun to dump java because it's free?
