This was the message they knew everybody would read.
The real message is how can we maintain lock-in (and thus profit margins). The Microsoft strategy will be all about how to leverage existing monopolies to gain new ones that apply to web services. Owning the desktop, office suite, and browser is extremely powerful. There may be no way we can prevent them from getting lock-in on protocols and apis for web applications. Then, it is another 10 years of lock-in and high prices. This is war.
