Monopoly lost.
Because they're afraid of losing that monopoly. That basically everyone who owns a computer has used MS s/w will probably work against them -- basically everyone has been repeatedly blue-screened, infected, etc. If MS stuff were actually of decent quality, it could be its own advertisement, but such is not the case.
