Ummm let's not forget mainstream media
Part of Dean's rise via the internet may be attributed to the amount of interest generated by mainstream news reports. Across the board (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox) there were multiple days that these bastions of blather were were touting how Dean was using the internet as a means to reach out for support. I find it intersting that all candidates have a location on the internet but Dean's website was he one so ballyhooed. Whether Dean was the first to use the internet to full potential is up for debate but he did get a group of publicity from the main stream media outlets.

Dean's fall from grace can be attributed to
1. His own mistakes
2. The main stream media added to his decline by focusing on his mistakes. Let's it face any front runner is going to recieve a proctology exam from the main stream media and Dean "was" the front runner.
3. Dean may have been ready for Iowa and NH but those two states were not ready for him.

The internet is a great place to offer a central place where voters can come and learn about contribute to and help a candidate. However the internet is not the end all to getting elected. The net is one in a bag of resources available.
