how many desktops in the world are running Linux?
Mine, my wifes and my kids plus our laptops (that's 6), an entire Canadian Government Directorate doing software development (that's 163 more), a couple of people that dual boot at work (3 more), all of the guide leaders for Brownies and Guides (that is 6 more, beacause Open Office is "good enough"), my bank manger (because I got her to try Knoppix), two of my friends that are director's at Transport Canada (tired of viruses and ever slowing machines), and all of the folks that work for ESIPS and Douglas Support Services (that would be another 10). So lets see that would be 188 that I know. Oh and a Police Officer that is also now tired of viruses and rebuilding his computer, so that would be 189 that I personally know of, oh and my mom si getting a new Fedora Core box for Christmas...

Your point?
