It was a valid argument, and this analogy is a perfect way to highlight it.

If I don't buy a phone with Caller ID, I can still get Caller ID from my telco and I can use it easily by buying an external Caller ID display, an answering machine with Caller ID, my Windows-based PC, my Mac or even my Dish TV recievers!
