I'm curious about something
What persuaded the individual vendors to throw their lot with a common OS? I talked to some IBMers this morning and had similar discussions with HP folks in the past. They all seem excited about opening up the server room to competition.

But at the end of the day, it's a zero-sum game - they can't all win, there must be as many losers as winners. And yet they are all joyfully entering the game.

As an end user, I'm delighted, because it gives me latitude in configuring, leverage in pricing. But what enticed the vendor community to come over?
