Absolutely right
As a former Novell employee in marketing communications, I am in complete agreement with both of MarkMyers' posts.

I disagree in one point, though: we probably _could_ have marketed our way out of a paper bag. However, we never could get ourselves out of the wiring closet and the server room.

The reason: _our_ people who had the money were clueless about the _client_ people who had the money, just as Mark says. So they kept focusing on the techies and hoped that they would sell the business-suit types. It worked up to 1993, but that was it.
