I would have to disagree.
Not about the OSS/MS thing, but about the remote thing.

I absolutely HATE pay-to-play games. I think it's a stupid concept. $50 for the damn game, then another $10-$20 a month JUST to use it?

Now Microsoft wants to move Office and Windows to a whole "Live" thing where, no doubt, you'll pay a subscription fee just to use Office. It just seems rediculous to have to pay a monthly fee just to use Word.

It's my exact feelings toward music. When I pay for it, I want to OWN IT. I want to have it, to use it whenever I want, even if I'm dirt poor at the moment cuz of tuition. The second a subscription ends, it's all gone. You just waisted who-knows how many hundreds of dollars in a year and all for naught. Nothing to show for it.

The same with software. I know the technicality of the whole "buying the rights, not the software" crap. But I would still like to the physical software and use it whenever. "Sorry, Billy, we couldn't justify paying $50/month just so you can write an essay. Go use the typewriter."
