I'll agree with you all. Office has run out of Steam. No one I know uses all the fluffy features in Office, and most see no reason to upgrade anymore. How many different ways do you need to use a word processor? Pivot tables in excel are cool but what else is there? Absolutely no one uses any of the XML features in the current office.

The problem is that Office has always been Microsofts bread and butter application. They need to move on and focus on the server end, security and windows, .NET.

What would excite the world is a free version of SQL server that is maybe ripped of more enterprise level features and some limits, but would allow free development of aspx on the web the way PHP and MYSQL are flourishing. Things like that. Who cares anymore about Office XXX.
