RedHat savvy? Hmmm...
"Red Hat's profits and user base gives it the clout to pull off some of its development ambitions, even if the broader open-source community doesn't accept its approach or implementations, he added."

Shouldn't this be a signal for concern about fragmentation?

"Despite its savvy about open-source developer relationships, the company is unlikely to wait for consensus to build around its choice of Xen as a focus of work, for example."

The same savvy that cost so much mindshare when RH quit their base distribution and started Fedora? They alienated alot of us with that move. Despite the author's and RH's attempts to make RH look like the good guy, talking about how other vendors such as IBM and Novell offer both proprietary and OS products, and how that is bad for the OS consumer because the goal is to tie them into buying the proprietary product, the opposite is true: Because IBM and Novell have other offerings, they don't need to tie any purchase requirements to the use of their OS products. This article talks about record profits by RH being what makes this new R&D team possible...the profits came from where? They came from selling out to the behemoths: IBM, etc., who sell the RH "licenses" (support contracts) with their hardware.

The only savvy here is indeed RedHat's. But its not savvy with OS developers or direct consumers, but at pulling yet another marketing ploy...and savvy enough to deceive the tech journalists who wrote this article into helping them with it.
