I think so too, but I think its because it redraws the too much of the page each time a change is made and does double buffer so you don't see the redraw.

Try this one on IE and Firefox it shows the effect:

(You don't need to upload an image, it will substitute a standard one).

But my recollection of Monkey Island for example was that it was big sweeping graphics and only a little movement, and so they'd be doing only a few bitblts, even if they do unnecessary blits I don't think it should be a problem in that game.

Then again there's always Flash.

What did you work on? My guess is that it had lots and lots of graphics on the page all at once spread out across the screen?
