For personal use-
I'm done buying. I have what I need to get my work done and if I want to do something else, there are literally thousands of free and very cheap programs out there that serve my needs just fine.

I don't have a lot of Microsoft programs at home outside of W2K and Office (which I don't use much as I also run Open Office). The rest are 3rd party programs that have always suited my needs much better and with less bloat. Any extra MS stuff I run has been given to me and that's a good thing. If I had to pay for some of the trash I've had to uninstall after a nasty crash, I'd be tearing down some rose bushes in Redmond!
