Back in the early days of web programming, everything was scripting languages. Cold Fusion, Perl, ASP (late to the party compared to the previous two) were the way to go.

Then, everyone started saying "scripting is slow and annoying...we need something more efficient." JSP got compiled down to servlets, and then ASP.NET did the same thing.

Now, we are back to scripting languages.

Personally, I'm a big time OO-guy, and vastly prefer the Java / .NET model for web app development. I can understand, though, why the procedural model popular in scripting languages would be attractive to those who find OO mind-twisting.

To-may-to, to-mah-to....
