Why would I decrease my profits to use Oracle???
With free software I get to put 100% of what I charge for a project in my own pocket. Why would I go to the trouble to learn how to use a product that is going to put a "profit tax" (licensing fees) on my work. How stupid does Ellison think developers are?
When free variations of UNIX became stable/funtional enough to replace their commercial brothers developers like myself could sell our UNIX software/services to customers that would not pay the high price of a UNIX license on top of what we wanted for our products.
Signing up for Oracle's program would be like abandoning Linux/BSD to sell my products running on SCO OpenServer/Unixware.
