Sorry, while I'm hardly an Ellison fan, the fact is it takes considerable time, effort and capital to develope new products. The company producing those products should be able to make a profit. While Oracle is releasing a version aimed at the open source market it's a severely limited product requiring a high end pc to run it on. When compared to the similar offering from MySQL and Postgre in the same space Oracle will probably not gain a lot of market share as the people using open source software aren't going to be willing to pony up the software to run it.

As for saying that Oracle has been screwing us on the price of it's software sorry but it's their product. If you think it costs too much choose one of the lower cost alternatives of which there are many. That's called the market system.
