Oracle's protecting it's market
Sure, Oracle will be happy to *give* you a database server whose functionality is too resticted to let you actually use it.

Max CPUs? 1. MySQL: No restriction.
Max memory? 1GB. MySQL: No restriction.
Max database? 4GB. MySQL? No restriction.

And the article doesn't say it, but I imagine there are other restirctions (like max number of users).

With today's multiple cores CPU, there's no excuse for accepting a single-CPU restriction. And don't forget that an additional 1GB is only a $100 investment.

Why would anybody with a brain choose these restrictions over MySQL?

BTW: Does anyone else think Oracle bought Innobase to stifle InnoDB, the part of MySQL that provides ACID compliance? Thankfully, InnoDB is GPL, so that a new "Free InnoDB" project can convene and continue InnoDB development, but the bad thing is, Oracle and MySQL AB have extended the Innobase contract and the Oracle-stifled InnoDB will remain in their standard distribution.
