More noise than substance...
My official position on this is that it will end up being a non-issue. As Longhorn and Indigo move closer to release, Java and its related tools will fade away. It is inevitable. Longhorn will mark the same sort of seismic shift in programming models that Visual Basic brought to client server computing. My MCSD's are scouring the LOngohrn Beta SDK's for nuggets of gold that we will mine into a new robust application framework that dwarfs all Java competitors.
