In the past 5-8 years of dealing with viruses in attachments, what has Microsoft done in order to stem the tide of these kinds of problems?

They claim Trustworthy Computing, etc. They have made changes to some of their software, but only the most minimal changes have been made to meet their obligations.

Fortunately for the software industry, they have "protected" themselves through copyright laws and have virtually no chance of being whacked by the courts for sloppy work. So Microsoft (and all the other companies out there) can give us garbage, minimal security, viruses, etc., and we have no legal recourse what-so-ever.

If the software industry had any chance at all of being whacked by the courts we?d see significant differences in security. But since there is virtually no financial or legal threat of having any kind of responsibility for a leaking boat, where is the incentive to actually do anything serious about it????

It?s in the EULA, Microsoft cannot be blamed no matter what the problem is.
