I didn't know Micrsoft made a product for this
I thought Microsoft was purely software. What hardware product does Microsoft make that competes wtih the IPOD?

If none then there is your answer. Microsoft makes money off selling software to hardware vendors to make a competing product. Apple makes there money off the hardware and the software. Why would apple sell software solution to the competition to undermine thier hardware market and I-tunes market. That just doesn't make sense.

That would be like Micrsoft licensing out the X-box software to Sony and Nintendo.
