- I thought HP did make money on the iPod?

That it was more of a PRIDE move by the new head or
something. Now Apple is doing several key things different like
creating licensing deals with Motorola and Auto manufacturers
and things in the works we do not know of. Also Apple can at
any time activate WMA and use the Napster like formular of
"renting" music anytime she wishes..it's all built into the iPod
just not acitvated and like the Intel vs of OSX I'm sure iTunes can
be switched to a combo rental/own utility at a moments notice.
In key areas Apple is doing this thing different.
Look at how fast they respond and change the whole iTunes/
iPod thing keeping it fresh and dare I say funky...:)
