You made some good observations, but . . .
Linux on the desktop will have openings with the massive hardware requirements for Vista. Microsoft is NOT selling governments and corporations what they want. These institutions do not want a super computer on each employees desk, like you would need for Longhorn. They just want simple, light weight terminals for simple word processing, email, web access, and company applications. Actually, some employees just sit and use a single company application.

So, remember, Windows won by being good enough and cheaper. Linux can win by being just as good, cheaper, and more secure. Right now, the only advantage you have with Windows on the desktop is compatibility and familiarity.

Yes, Linux will win first in large corporations and governments. But, many people will increasingly use simple web devices where nobody cares about (or evn knows about) the OS. The next revolution is simple, cheap, web device that you just plug in and use.
