Quible Correction
OASIS existed long before the OASIS OpenDocument
TC was founded. The Untied Nations ebXML, the
UBL, (Universal Business Language) and LegalXML
are but a few of the OASIS efforts predating
OpenDoc.

Microsoft was invited, and did join the OASIS
Open Office XML File Format TC as a founding
member with observer status. Although the name
of the TC was changed in September of 2004 (at
the request of the EU) to "OpenDocument",
Microsoft remains a member with observer status.
All that need be done to convert their status
from observer to voting member is to notify the
TC Chairman of your intentions, show up for two
consecutive phone conferences, and you are a
voting member. It's that simple.

Microsoft makes it sound as if they want us to
beg them to contribute. We've asked them to
particpate. The door has always been open and
they have a front row seat to all the action.
And now their trying to say they weren't invited?
Ridiculous. Childish. And beneath the dignity of
any American Corporation. But then, this is
after all Microsoft.

OBTW, i wasn't "invited" to join either the
OpenDocument TC, the UBL or the SOA-RM. All you
have to do is request membership and it's done.
And that's what i did. The fact is that Microsoft
is one of the few OASIS members specifically
invited by the other founding members to join the
OASIS OpenDocument TC!!!!!!

Don't FUD the issue by saying that Microsoft is a
member of OASIS, but not of the OpenDocument TC.
They are in fact a registered member of the
OpenDocument TC, and have had access to all
documents, proposals, schematics, discussions,
notes and conferences since day one. The
official Microsoft registered representative on
the OpenDocument TC is Rahib Filfili of
Mountainview, CA. Want his eMail and phone
number?

Is there anything else i can help you with?
