Is to stiple improvement?
Currently MySQL has serious limitation in transactional use. Once it can improve locking system to support fine granule locking (i.e., page or record level locking), it can wipe out most lower-end Oracle market. So buying it and keep where it is now will ensure the current market! This is quite smart move by Oracle.
