The current look of OpenOffice 1.1.x is great! Clean, unclutered.

Really better than MS Office, It has everything you need and more for the masses. You should buy a publishing package for the power users. You forget that the life of the average user does NOT revolve around the office suite. They only use it to type simple documents.

And, yes, MS Office copatibility is a problem because Microsoft wants it that way. But, that said, with OpenOffice 2.0, the compatibility is a lot better. They have spent more time reverse engineering and getting it right. This is only an issue because Microsoft does not provide documentation and sample code.
