Why its no big deal
I was originally annoyed that Microsoft would try to patent XML. BUT after looking at it it appears they are patenting the method of parsing the XML rather than the XML system. With this in mind, nothing prevents me writing an app to read the XML docs as long as I dont use Microsoft technology by using something like Xerces. So this begs the question: why patent?
