- Yes, people are inherently self-serving
-
But what about hose who don't have the skills to 'give back'? Many open source advocates desire a mass adoption of their products (or at least more than a minimal share of the 'market'), but still expect everyone to become a 'developer'. I use a few flavors of Linux, and countless open source applications, but I'm not a developer, so I can't improve the code and pass it on. I have reported bugs (bt I've done that for closed-source apps as well), and I'll refer people to an application that I particularly like, but I am doing nothing tangible to improve the product.
If I used nessus, and loved it, and wanted to help them out, they would still have the same 'lack of contributions' because I don't code. Does that mean I shouldn't be using the software? Am I a 'self-serving' person because of that? - Posted by: Real World Posted on: 10/07/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
