While I agree to the advantages of Linux, there is a business case for providing Microsoft solutions. Linux is dominating the grid cluster solution space. But if you start counting computers outside the server room, you?ll end up with a very large Microsoft count. While Microsoft is building a solution to compete against the Linux clusters, Digipede Technologies already has a computational grid solution for all those underutilized desktops. Digipede provides a solution that runs on the Windows desktops you already have.

To respond to some of Linux User?s points:

First: Licensing issues. Because the Digipede Network uses the currently existing Windows network, there is no need to buy new operating systems. If a user wants to grid-enable Excel...Excel is probably already licensed and installed on the desktops.

Fourth: Cost per CPU. The Digipede Network is very reasonably priced and since you don?t need to purchase any new hardware and probably no new software. The TCO is pretty low.

There are messy, time-consuming business problems that can be solved by using grid computing today, on systems that people already own and use. Since the Digipede Network also comes with an easy to use SDK, users can easily grid-enable internal development projects. Projects that are already written to run on Windows.
