Microsoft is just wasting time here and hurting their image.
It would be like the dog that catches the car, what does he do?

In this case, if Microsoft does get the patent, what do they do? Make a demand against SAMBA and LINUX?? That would go over real well with customers using MS Desktops with Linux servers and Samba. And, Microsoft has been knowingly letting them use the FAT system without saying anything for years, so they could not demand damages for past usage. Things would have to be re-written, and you would not be able to access FAT partitions from Linux without paying a license. Biiiig whoopeeee.

A lot of bad press for nothing. Microsoft should put their energy into competing.
