The two approches Microsoft vs Google
Microsoft is focused on creating the platform that all will use and thus own the toll booth at the only bridge. Now mind you that are trying to build the best durn platform on the planet that will usher in the next generation of web applications, AND require Windows on both the client and the server. And, of course Microsoft MUST protect the twin cash cows at all costs: Windows and Office.

Google on the other hand, is actually fucused on CREATING the next generation web applications based on standards and existing technology. Google is betting that existing technology (AJAX for instance) is good enough for many things and they will move to new technologies as they are available. But, Google wants nothing to do with Microsoft platforms because they realize, that if Microsoft can control the platform, they can also screw Google and suck the profits out. (Sun has realized this for a long time)

So, who will win?? Looks like Microsoft customers are getting restless as evidenced by Massachusettes, Munich, and many others. The customers are realizing that the OS and Office Suite are becomming comodities, and they we need to move on. But, Microsoft has the cash on hand, the twin cash cows, and as of today, owns the platforms and the distribution. Can Google, Sun and others tip the scales far enough to cause a tipping point. Stay tuned . . . This is exciting. This will be bloody. This is a fight.
