Distributed Applications- what about the Ent?
It's obvious as many authors have pointed out that Google is looking at becoming a huge provider of distributed applications over the internet (dark fiber purchases, server alliances, etc) . It almost looks like Open Office will no longer have to be installed on your machine, you will just use each app over the internet as a webpage (OK maybe/ maybe not). Anytime you access the application over the internet it will already be patched and have no security holes and we will no longer have to worry about installing application updates (OK maybe/ maybe not).

But what about the Enterprise. Group Policies and other tools are used to customize (MS Office) applications. How can an Enterprise do that with a distributed application? What about non internet connected devices?

All I can envision is another piece of hardware at the perimeter of a network (which you will have to buy from Sun\Google) that would have any Enterprise customizations already coded. So when an Enterprise user downloads the current webpage for a word process application, the customizations are made in the traffic throughput to the user?

Defintely a lot of hurdles to overcome. I wish them the best - if, and only if, it is easier, cheaper, and more secure, for the end user and Enterprise alike.

Wait - what am I saying? I'm a network admin! If I have not patches, applications, or security holes to deal with, what do I have left? My life is over:(
