Let this be a lesson to the hordes of Web advertisers...
Advertising alone does not make profit. This should seem obvious, and it probably is to many people, but far too many companies just haven't gotten the message yet.

Like millions of other surfers, I was bombarded with those suggestive camera ads with pictures of not-very-clothed women in them. Sure, they look like a cute gimmick, but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy them (meaning the cameras, not the women). And seeing dozens of ads for them isn't going to change my mind. Indeed, I cannot imagine how many surfers' minds were poisoned against X10 for constantly invading people's browser space with intrusive, persistent ads. Get the message, people: YOU TURN CUSTOMERS AWAY BY FORCING ADVERTISING ON THEM.

Sadly, the economics of the Internet dictate that intrusive advertising is viable. E-mail is so cheap to send that even if only 0.01% of spam recipients become buyers, a spam advertising campaign is profitable. Similarly, too many companies think that given enough eyeballs, any web pop-up or pop-under ads will bring revenue. Let the failure of X10's massive advertising campaign show the world that the Internet's reach still vastly exceeds its grasp.
