If all went well and Google did become the next Microsoft, then yes. You would have another huge software vendor. However, Google would clearly be a more benevolent overlord. MS is huge AND unethical and arrogant. Google is neither unethical nor arrogant. So, ya, even *IF* Google became a huge monopoly (which they won't because MS and open-source aren't just going to roll over) we'd be better off as consumers and professionals in the industry.

More realistically though, I think we'll just see Google as a large competitor in the market... Not a monopoly.
