"Do you deny that you are either directly or indirectly paid by MS? I've never seen a forum as full of paid MS shills as this one is."

First off, I want to thank you for this comment - when I read this, I couldn't help but burst out laughing. I can assure you that I am not paid by MS in any way, shape or form. In fact, I use MS only on my lab computers - I think it is very expensive and that currently open source alternatives are sufficient for most of my home use.

I see what you are saying about incompatibilities with the rest of the world, but we have seen that MS will lower its prices when necessary, and they are not stupid. MS has money, and they can hire the best and most innovative developers. If pressure is maintained by Linux, as it surely will be, we'll probably start to see some real innovation from MS. If open source can't keep up and can't license the new patented technologies, this could prove problematic. Honestly, we'll just have to see. I do hope that open source continues to make headway as the competition will inevitably be to everyone's benefit.

Just because I can see a potential problem for open source does not mean that I am on Microsoft's payroll.
