AJAX IS EVIL!!! ...Dont use it!
Whats the big deal about all this AJAX hype??? We were building stuff like this in 1999 using Javascript in the browser and various tricks. Looks like a bunch of young kids discovered the DOM in the browser at Google, and are blabbing about how cool this technoogy is, when its nothing but a bunch of Javascripted xml calls in the browser's DOM that people have been playing with since the web began.

Fact is, its a HORRIBLE solution and nothing but a cosmetic fix to a stateless medium that runs well without it. Its a security risk, this AJAX in some cases and is a cross-browser nightmare to manage. And....whats worse, how many ways can I BREAK AJAX in the browser, and in so doing, block thousands of users from using my online product and web pages?

1. Most Anti-virus software blocks various scripting client-side tricks coming through the browser
2. many corp. proxies block client-side script features
3. Most of the OLDER browsers dont support the correct javascript and xmlhttp code and DOM required to support AJAX
4. Both IE and Mozilla support completely different ways of using AJAX, so its a proprietar hack and browser sniff to pull it off cross-browser
5. Thistechnology adds ten-fold the size of Kbytes downloaded to a typical browser agent. Unless you are using a great broadband system consistently, most dial-up users will go through long waits and hell getting it to work
6. 11% of users world-wide, according to what Ive read, TURN OFF JAVASCRIPT in their agenst anyway for security reasons, so it wont work for them!
7. Nearly ALL mobile devices and micro-browsers fail to support javscripting and other client side technologies period. So, its practically useless for the growing number of mobile agents and users out there. Most WAP proxies strip out Javascript because of this, its extra size, security reasons, and support of thetechnology.

Lets not get confused at A|ZDNET and keep writing about BUZZWORDS when this technology is nothing new, nothing special, and doesnt add ANY NEW VALUE to the web beyond visual circus tricks using a browser DOM. Lets write articles about truly new technologies that make a difference, like XML and XSLT that are really and truly changing the world wide web presently.
