Yes, Java is good, but we also need something more light weight, AND
we need Sun to open source Java, so it can be distributed with every copy of Firefox.

But, really, we need something much more light weight that just lets the server app, written in whatever language, control the user interface remotely. Think something like X-windows, but at a higher level so the client draws the push buttons, tool bars, menus, etc, and advanced graphics features so that you could to animations. Maybe something similar to DirectX/OpenGL, but not as many features and optimized for a network connection.
