AJAX is good, but it is NOT enough. We need better interactivity.
Google should be working with Mozilla, Sun, and others to create an open solution that will allow for more interactivity, fast graphics, cached applications and ofline usage, sharing files between providers, etc. Of course privacy and security are extremely important here.

Really this is what Microsoft is working on for Longhorn (Vista). They are hoping you will use proprietary protocols and apis to create rich web applications without even realizing it. Then, the applications will not work with out Windows on the server and the client. They will back port these apis and tools to XP, but NOT Win2000 or Win98.

Google would be smart to isolate Microsoft with open standards, and cross platform cababilities, and also the ability to run on legace Windows. But, Google can not go it alone.
